Issue about expiration time of personal access token (classic) not being updated

If the expiration time can't be updated, then what's the point of setting this expiration time?
I didn't know when the token would expire when I generated it, so I set a temporary value, and now that the token is going to expire, I have to regenerate a new token and replace it, doesn't that feel like a hassle?
The feature is out there to serve people, not to cause trouble to people.
I can't help it, since I can't freely control the expiration time, I can only eliminate this factor and set it to never expire.
