I would like formally complain about the way the platform is affiliated with github-linguist/linguist and the disservice it does to the community, programmers and extended users, lack of professionalism with which the project states its inclusion policies and applies them and how badly this reflects on the github platform at large.
We have applied for the inclusion of Liquidsoap a DSL for streaming that has become a standard language for building advanced online streams, having existed for decades and with adoption from major users (Radio France, Radionomy [nullsoft owner], etc..)
These elements have all been documented yet, the maintainer has repeatedly refused to include the language, using a vague and arbitrary policy that is neither grounded in purpose nor in material elements.
Eventually, there should be two reasons for including or not including a language: maintenance burden and real-life use.
Real life uses are amply documented in the PR and the maintainers have done all the work of implementing the language support and would happily provide future support.
While the inclusion of the language is not a deal breaker for the project, this type of behavior and lack of policy really is a disservice to the github platform and its users. Typically, proper support for syntax highlighting is a very important tool for users who are otherwise not necessarily advanced programmers.
Ultimately, it also reflects pretty badly on the professionalism and community care of the platform.
For these reasons, github should definitely find a better method for supporting languages through the platforms that better reflects the level of care and professionalism that the platform aspires to.
