I completely agree with the suggestion of adding a custom message option to the one-time sponsorship feature. It would bring valuable benefits and enhance the communication between sponsors and developers within organizations or individual projects. The ability to attach a simple string message to a donation would allow sponsors to convey their specific purpose or priority for the donation. This feature opens up exciting possibilities, such as letting organizations know that a sponsor wants to prioritize a particular issue. Many users have specific areas of interest or urgent problems they would like to see addressed, and this functionality would empower them to communicate their preferences effectively. By including a custom message with their donation, sponsors could provide GitHub Issue links or other relevant information, directing developers' attention to specific issues that they feel are important. This feature would serve as a valuable tool for sponsors to engage with developers and align their donations with their desired outcomes. Receiving such targeted donations could inspire developers to allocate resources accordingly, whether by running a bug bounty program to incentivize issue resolution or dedicating additional time and effort to tackling the selected issue. It would foster a more collaborative and purpose-driven environment, benefiting both sponsors and developers. I believe implementing this feature would greatly improve the sponsorship experience on GitHub and further empower sponsors to make a meaningful impact on the projects they support. Thank you for suggesting this valuable addition! |

This proposal is excellent. I had considered sending a message along with becoming a sponsor, but currently, such a feature has not been implemented. I believe that when implemented, the open-source software (OSS) community will become even more lively. |

It would be great if there would be a possibility to add custom message (simple
String
) to one-time sponsorship option. In such case sponsors may let organization developers and / or individual developers purpose of their donation.
One of the great use-cases I could think of (which we miss so much right now) is ability to let organization know that sponsor wants to prioritize a specific issue.
Many people would like to prioritize one issues over the others. With the ability to attach custom message to the donation, users might get a good tool to let developers know that their donation is more preferred to be spent on solving a specific issue.
With receiving such donations, developers may decide to run a bug bounty program and reward the implementer of the selected issue after it's completion or simply decide to spend more time on the selected issue.
Basically I would imagine that users start sending GitHub Issue links using those messages attaching to a donation (one-time sponsorship).
