We want to identify GH profiles that are contributing to our OSS projects with a badge/achievement. Is it possible to create it?

GItHub already has a system for badges, so what you are asking for is not possible at this time. Maybe in the future.

Hi @rod4n4m1!

What you suggest is impossible, since GitHub Corp. is the only one who can create badges. Badges are obtained when you do specific things like closing issues within 5 minutes, etc.
